A deeply touching and thought-provoking poem. You have exposed the painful contrast between our so-called educated, socially conscious society and its indifference to genuine suffering. The woman’s(mother) simple act of sharing her roti with the child reminds us that true compassion often comes from love, affection and lived hardship. Most importantly, our attitude needs to transform: we have indeed have to come forward, start responding with empathy, dignity and action.
